The Department of Health (department) is recruiting to create The Certified Counselors and Hypnotherapist Advisory Committee, per RCW 18.19.220.  The committee will be comprised of two certified counselors or certified advisers, two hypnotherapists, and three public members. 
 
The department is seeking to appoint individuals that reflect the diversity of Washington's population and provide geographic representation from throughout the state.  The secretary appoints all members.
 
To qualify an applicant:

  1.) Must be a resident of Washington State.
  2.) Cannot hold an office in a professional association for their profession.
  3.) Cannot be employed by Washington State.
  4.) Must have been actively engaged in their profession for at least five
       years immediately preceding appointment.
  5.) Public members must represent the general public and be unaffiliated
       directly or indirectly with the professions credentialed under chapter
       18.19 RCW.

The mandate of the Department of Health is to promote the delivery of quality health care to the residents of the state by regulating the competency and quality of professional health care providers. The advisory committee will assist the Department of Health with accomplishing this mandate through a variety of activities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  A.) Establishing qualifications for minimal competency to grant or deny
       licensure for certified counselors, certified advisers, and
       hypnotherapists.
  B.) Regulating the competency and quality of professional health care
       providers by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing qualifications for
       licensure.
  C.) Establishing and monitoring compliance with continuing education
       requirements.
  D.) Ensuring consistent standards of practice.
  E.) Developing continuing competency mechanisms. 
  F.) Serving as members of standing committees, when appointed.
  G.) Developing rules, policies, and procedures that promote the delivery
       of quality health care to the residents of the state.

The committee will meet about six (6) times the first year and three (3) times yearly after that.  They will meet at the department's office in Tumwater or Kent.  Members are paid $50 per day and are reimbursed for travel expenses and meals.
 
Total Annual Time Commitment:
  Meeting/Conferences:  3 to 6 days per year
  Meeting Preparation:  1 to 2 hours per meeting
